If you live in UK (or if it happens to be visiting it in June), if you’re a fan of any fancy sports like horse racing and you really want to be at least for once in your life a part of one of those glamorous events that you can only watch on the TV, you should definitely go toAscot Racecourse!
There are many different types of tickets and the price depends of where you’d decide to observe the races. It’s practically impossible to get a place in the Royal Enclosure as this space is strictly reserved for the family and the guests of the Queen only, but you can feel the spirit of the Britain’s elite as well as enjoying beautiful first-rate views in the Grandstand Admission too! This area is accessible for everybody ready to pay a bit (or not a bit) more money! However, there is a stringent dress code here, which has to be followed in order to enter in! Ladies are not permitted to wear dresses above the knee and a hat or a fascinator must be worn all the times. Gentleman, on their part, have to be dressed in suits with a shirt and a tie! (How fab is that, huh?!)
So yeah, if you choose to watch the races from the Grandstand Enclosure, please be prepared to spend time and money in picking up the right outfit! And don’t forget to follow the dress code rules otherwise a “reasonable judgement will be exercised”. Don’t laugh, just quoting the official Ascot site!
Before discouraging you to go at all (that’s definitely not the idea of this post) I want to say that there is one more place from where you can enjoy the racing without paying an unreasonable price for a ticket and a hand-made crazy fancy hat! I’m talking about the Silver Ring. The only requirement here is to be dressed elegant, apparently according to your personal taste. And then let the fun begin! Summer bars, offering Moët & Chandon and draught beer, cheeseburgers and chips with cool popular current music hits as a background are all waiting for you! The guys here are betting on horses while the girls are picnicking and all of them are dressed as going on a prom! No lies!
To sum up, Ascot Racecourse was definitely an impressive event, actually so impressive that I’m still wondering to repeat or not my visit again next year. Will see.
See you again, have a wonderful week you all!
