Wondering what to wear when working from home? Whether you should get dressed or not? To wear shoes or not? Scroll down to find answers to all of these questions and more. This post is all about working from home outfits.
Firstly, letโs take a moment to appreciate and admire all the fashion editors and fashionistas who get up and give their outfits 100% just as they would if they were going to the office. It takes quite a high level of commitment to be like them, but Iโm not sure, Iโm one of them. Despite having worked from home as a fashion influencer for over 5 years and my love for outfit styling, the most important thing to me is COMFORT. Especially when it comes to work from home outfits.ย
As well as comfort, I love aesthetically pleasing ensembles and convenience when it comes to styling. So it will come as no surprise that my WFH wardrobe consists mainly of basics and neutrals.
The ULTIMATE Capsule Wardrobe Bundle

A timeless year-round capsule wardrobe you can’t wait to wake up to.
I love everyday outfits that can be thrown on and styled in no more than 5 minutes. This applies to my home office uniform too. But even though the following outfits may seem casual, all of them can be dressed up with a smart coat and white trainers. You know, when you simply must go out for your 30-minute lunch break that turns into 2 and half hours browsing your phone at your favorite coffee shop.
I see you, now get back to work โ once you finish reading this post, of course.
Comfortable And Chic Working From Home Outfits:
Grey Joggers + White Cropped Hoodie
Recreate this look:
Starting off with one of my favorite combinations โ a comfy pair of joggers and a white hoodie. Both of these are MUST-HAVE wardrobe essentials when it comes to my WFH fashion and if you want to make your day-to-day dressing easier you should add them too, in case you donโt have them already.
Studies have shown that 61% of employees are more productive when the dress code is relaxed, and whatโs more relaxed than joggers and a soft hoodie!?
Black Leggings + White Bodysuit + Maxi Cardigan
Recreate this look:
Did you think that the black leggings are only for working out? You couldnโt be further from the truth. A good all-black pair of leggings can be such a great all-year-round wardrobe staple. They will see you through every kind of day, both on and off duty. They are comfortable enough to balance your laptop on your lap, but versatile enough to dress up or down to your preference.
Personally, I like to style them with a maxi cardigan over a simple bodysuit for a cozy, snuggle look, but instead of a cardigan, you can easily put on a classy white shirt for a more elegant and polished look. Either way, youโll look fabulous.
Style tip โ For maximum comfort, go for a seamless pair of black leggings. I love the ALO Yoga ones. They fit like a glove. The quality is amazing and so is the price!
Beige Knitwear Matching Set
Recreate this look:
I really struggle to concentrate and stay inspired when Iโm uncomfortable, or I donโt feel good in my own skin, and thereโs nothing that makes me feel more pulled together than a chic matching loungewear set. Thereโs something magical about matching clothes. Itโs like theyโve been made to restore your inner balance.
Bonus points if the set is in a neutral color. That will make it more versatile, and you can mix and match it with other garments from your closet. For matching sets and work from home loungewear, I always go to Nordstrom. I love their pieces, you can find some great affordable options.
Monochromatic Look
Recreate this look:
When in doubt about what to wear, pick one shade for your whole look and stick to it. That shouldnโt be too hard if youโre building a neutral wardrobe whilst sticking to similar earthy tones. But nevertheless, getting your hands on a few matching sets will definitely make your life easier. Remember, weโre here to create maximal style with minimal effort.
Beige Sweatpants + White Fitted Top
Recreate this look:
Every girl should have a classy beige pair of sweatpants in her capsule wardrobe. I assure you, youโll make so much use of them. But for now, hereโs a cute effortless working from home look.
Just add a white fitted top and voilร ! Donโt get me wrong, being comfy is a huge priority, but thereโs a limit to how far you could take it. I aim to be comfy and productive, not laying on the sofa eating Cheetos, scrolling through cat videos and memes. The only distraction weโre talking about is how eye-catching your outfit is.
Grey Leggings + White Top + Long Grey Cardigan
Recreate this look:
When it comes to your WFH outfits, I canโt stress enough the importance of having the basics in your wardrobe such as leggings in neutral colors (gray, beige & black) and classy white tops.
To elevate this simple legging + white top look, add a long cardigan for the perfect blend of โI just want to stay in bedโ and โBeyoncรฉ is my Spirit Animalโ. It will keep you feeling snug, but stylish at the same time.
Velour Shirt + Shorts Set
Recreate this look:
You donโt have to choose between style and comfort because you can have both? Velour is my new discovery. This fabric feels softer than the inside of a rose, you’ll want to wrap yourself up. It will keep you snug whilst looking hot at the same time. Once you get your hands on a neutral velour set, youโre good to go. I pretty much hibernate in mine and donโt care who judges me.
To finish off this post, Iโll answer the question of many peopleโs lips: Should you wear shoes with your working from home outfits or not. When your home is your office, no rules apply!
Some people buy work shoes to wear at home and thatโs totally okay if that makes them feel more motivated to work and boosts their productivity. But for me personally, Iโd never cheat on my soft sexy slippers. Itโs scientifically proven that the way you feel (physically) heavily affects your levels of your creativity. So when it comes to comfort, there are no shoes out there โ that Iโm yet to find โ that can replace my beloved UGG slippers.
Fashion for thought
Working from home has introduced a unique challenge: How do we strike the perfect balance between comfort and professionalism, especially when our dining room table has become the new office desk and a Zoom call and virtual meetings dictate our daily routine?
One of the best things about these work-from-home outfits is that they allow for both a sense of normalcy and a level of comfort that traditional work clothes might not offer. Slipping into a cozy cardigan or a soft fabric boat neck top can make all the difference for your mental health during these uncertain times.
But if an important meeting pops up on your Zoom schedule? No worriesโjust pair it with a statement necklace or throw on a crop top with a pair of jeans for an instant boost of confidence. And who’s to say you can’t rock a pair of heels or knee-high boots for a touch of glamourโeven if they’re just out of view of the video conference!
Let’s be real though, some days the only thing we want is to relish in ultimate comfort, opting for lounge pants with an elastic waistband or drawstring pants, maybe even bike shorts paired with an oversized sweater for those morning meetings.
Thereโs absolutely no shame in that! One great thing is that the perfect work-from-home wardrobe doesn’t demand constant new purchases. By curating outfit ideas from what’s already in your own closet, you can create the right mindset for great work, even if your office chair is now your living room couch.
Remember, it’s always the little things that count. A pop of color from your favorite jeans, or perhaps cozy socks paired with a pair of slippers to complete the overall look. In these stressful times, giving a little effort into your home looks can provide a significant boost to your daily mood and work mindset.
Itโs also the perfect time to share your fashionable yet comfortable pieces on social mediaโafter all, everyone is on the lookout for that stylish option that makes video calls a breeze. So, whether youโre dressing up for video meetings or donning your most comfortable cotton tee, these outfit ideas are here to ensure you feel your best every single day.
Let’s celebrate the little victories, like nailing that work-from-home look, and support each other in every way we can during this era of change. Always choose comfort, but never compromise on style. Stay chic!
